Enough with the Mood boards and Magazine Clippings!

“You should blog more Glen”

Yes you are right but I….

“You could provide a photographers viewpoint on things!”

Sure..ok.. but I..

“LIKE Maybe what time of day is best for photos”

Yea…

“OR give advice to grooms on what ties look best in photos”

Righ..

“HEY! what about the best looking Mason Jars for receptions!!?”

…..

“Who your favourite Bridal designers are”

“Where the best locations are”

“The best way to pose in your wedding photos!”

Look. Stop. OK?

Enough.

If you are planning your wedding and looking for someone else to tell you how your day should go you’re missing the point.

Completely.

Don’t look at me to tell you where you should get married, who you should be wearing, who to get to design your stationary.

I got nothing.

And before you start typing PINTERE…. into that address bar neither do they, nor do BookFace, Tweeter, Goggle or any blog or magazine you’ve ever seen or read. Seriously you will find nothing there.

I can tell you exactly what you will find there.

What someone else did.

That’s it. Someone else’s ideas, someone else’s special day with someone else’s guests and hopefully, someone else’s’ Groom or Bride to be..

Don’t look to the internets, Instead look at each other. Why are you doing this again?

Seriously, why get married at all?

Are you letting everyone around you know that this person right here is the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with?

Cool, Excellent!!!

How exactly does that vintage bottle of Gin tell everyone that?

When did center pieces become more important than the words you will say to each other, when did type face become more important than his face?

Of course weddings should be stunning and gorgeous and everything you dreamed they would be but before you reach for that magazine clipping, before you pin that oh so wow table setting to your new “My big day” board, I wonder if you can try something first.

Sit down with each other. Just the two of you. Remember why you are doing this. Why this person, above all others, is the one you are choosing to be with for the rest of your lives.

Can we start there?

Perhaps he used to leave you notes just to make you smile. Speak to your stationary designer about that

Maybe when she wears her hair a certain way you can’t keep your eyes off her. Told the hair dresser about that?

What if she is the most fun you have ever had, dancing on tables and singing into the early hours of the morning. Why is your wedding then going to be a dour sit down affair with soft music playing in the background?

Does he look at you a certain way that makes you smile from ear to ear and just want to reach out and grab him? Want to have amazing wedding photos? That right there is how you do it.

Your wedding should have amazing moments, and special touches but don’t go looking to recreate someone else’s. Take a look at one another and think, how can I revolve everything about this day around this person and why I am spending my whole life with them.

Make your day your day. Not your interpretation of something you saw on a blog one time.
